Podcast with Joyce Rosario of New Works a cluster management company

Co-host Harriet Fancott (SeeTheoRun) and I sat down with Joyce Rosario, Executive Director of New Works, a “cluster management” non-profit in Vancouver that works with multiple dance companies and offers affordable programming, workshops and educational activities for artists and audiences.

This podcast is an informal chat about what social media marketing New Works does and what possible methods could be employed. For example, their program series called Dance Allsorts is one where dance is presented to audiences of all ages. Harriet offers some thoughts on how to reach families with small children (Harriet is a “mom-blogger”) through working with other bloggers.

New Works wants to expand its use of social media and has plans to do more blogging and linking with its clients. We hope to come back in six months to see how things are developing and what’s working (and what’s not).

Our discussion with Joyce highlights how so many small organizations are still just getting into the new channels of marketing and trying to make sense of it in a real way for their organizations. We hope that by listening in on these challenges we can all learn something.

Joyce Rosario has been an “art geek” for as long as she can remember, and has been involved in arts and culture in Vancouver for over ten years. A graduate of the theatre program at UBC, Joyce subsequently worked as an arts administrator in a variety of dance organizations and for the past three years has been the Executive Director of Made in BC – Dance on Tour. As a volunteer, she has served on peer juries, advisory committees and boards, most recently joining the board of directors for CanDance – The Canadian Network of Dance Presenters.
